Tube Failures are a critical ailment that bring the operations of a power plant to a catastrophic, grinding halt. Viking Vessel Services saw the need to bridge the gap of inefficiency with these crippling and devastating repairs within the industry, so we engineered a process, along with an ASME Section I part, the Tuff Tube Transition, to deliver quality, efficiency and less down time. The Tuff Tube Transition or 'TTT' not only reduces thermal expansion for a stronger, more secure tube-to-tube and tube-to-header connection, it also eradicates conventional open-root butt welds, eliminating purging and guaranteeing no oxidation occurs. All this and the repair with a TTT can be done in a fraction of the time of a conventional tube repair, ensuring the power plant huge savings in both outage time and budget.
TTT Tuff Plug (TP)
The Tuff Tube Transition TUFF PLUG is a self-aligning part with backing shaft utilized to terminate pipe ends, chemical cleanouts and headers. The Tuff Plug eliminates open root butt welds and has a far quicker, easier and more efficient fit-up, removing the need for back-purging the weld joint. H.I.P. Header Integrity Program
After numerous tube failures in a HRSG, oftentimes a plant will choose to replace a header section with a pre-fabricated stubbed header. This involves cutting out the old header section and installing a header already fitted with tube stubs and utilizing butt welds for the tube to tube tie-ins. As the majority of weld failures occur in the Heat Affected Zone of the tube, at the tube to header connection, there is often nothing wrong with the header itself. Instead of a conventional full stubbed header replacement, the full bundle of tubes on a header can be removed and instead be aligned with a Tuff Tube Transition so that the previously fatigued heat affected zone is now eliminated.
